2.4 Higher Order Thinking Skills
Candidates model and facilitate the effective use of digital tools and resources to support and enhance higher order thinking skills (e.g., analyze, evaluate, and create); processes (e.g., problem-solving, decision-making); and mental habits of mind (e.g., critical thinking, creative thinking, metacognition, self-regulation, and reflection).

Reflection:
This artifact highlights a movie that we assembled using Movie Maker technology. We were given a set of pictures, several pieces of music, and some video footage of the news that we had to synthesize into a good movie to use in our classes.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of Standard 2.4 because students must have the ability to work together using problem-solving and decision-making skills. They must also use the higher level thinking skills of analyzing, evaluating, and creating in order to accomplish the tasks asked of them. This involved creating movies using various types of audio, pictures, and video footage. In order to accomplish creating an excellent movie, students must use their critical thinking skills to synthesize a message from which others can learn.
I had never known anything about Movie Maker prior to this class, so I was able to learn a great deal. I learned how to fade music and video footage in and out, and how to put together a stack of pictures so that it would be meaningful. I learned to synthesize information into a format that would make sense to the onlooker, and I learned how to think like a student, so that I could make this project as easy for them to do as I could. For improvement, I think I would like to do several movies over a number of topics. This would not only be helpful in creating some models of what I would like to see students do, but it would also be excellent in practicing these newly learned skills so that they will stay with me.
The work that I put into this project impacts student learning in a very positive way, because students are engaged and enthusiastic about learning and creating movies. They will also be enthused about finding enough information with which to create a movie, which will get them into the content as they need to be. By increasing engagement, my hope is to increase student achievement over time.
