3.6 Selecting and Evaluating Digital Tools & Resources
Candidates collaborate with teachers and administrators to select and evaluate digital tools and resources for accuracy, suitability, and compatibility with the school technology infrastructure.
Artifact:
Reflection:
This artifact was created to give teachers and interested administrators a look into the myriad ways that technology can be used in the classroom to enhance student learning and encourage higher levels of critical thinking in students. The artifact is a narrated PowerPoint which elucidates ways that technology integration can promote improved academic achievement. The PowerPoint evaluates the following digital tools and resources for accuracy, suitability, and compatibility with the school’s current technology infrastructure, thus ensuring that mastery of the standard has been met:
· ePals
· Inspiration software/Kidspiration
· Cobb Virtual Library
· Online citation aids like Citation Machine
· Voicethread
· Prezi
· Telementors
· Wordle for word walls
· Assistive and adaptive technologies
From completing this artifact, I learned there are a plethora of ways that I can enhance the learning experience of my students, by integrating even a little technology into everything they do. I also learned the importance of sharing what I learn with other teachers and administrators. This sharing is not only beneficial to everyone concerned, but it helps to build my own credibility as a technology leader in my building. Establishing myself as a reliable and knowledgeable technology leader ensures that a continual dialogue will ensue about technology integration in the school. This narrated PowerPoint is by no means and exhaustive list of the technology that is available for teacher use. It only brushes the tip of the iceberg, in fact. As such, I would like to improve upon this list and add more ideas to the PowerPoint and maybe post this onto our Blackboard shell for teachers to listen to and learn from. I think that will be my next step in improving this artifact.
This artifact has the potential to impact faculty development by sharing what I have learned with other teachers. As more teachers become aware of the various technology applications available to them, they will dare to venture out and try new things. This will improve their instruction as they engage more and more students in the work that needs to be completed. This will also indirectly impact overall school improvement efforts as teaching improves. This impact can be measured by student engagement, student scores, teacher job satisfaction, and school performance as measured by the College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI).
