One of my favorite activities for my whole Masters program was the development of the webquest in my Multimedia ITEC 7445 class. Therefore, I am going to discuss my field experience of that webquest. A field experience is simply a way to keep track of the number of hours I spend on any project, and to synthesize my reflections about how this project impacts my learning as well as school improvement efforts via faculty development and/or student learning.
Any of the field experiences I have created, which can be accessed on my Weebly portfolio at www.tracyefaw.weebly.com , demonstrate mastery of Standard 6.3 because all my field experiences are reflective by nature and convey a deep synthesis of the work of each project.
As with all of my field experiences, I learn that what I balk at in the beginning, I can accomplish with flying colors at the end. I learn how to look critically at what my learning is supposed to be and how I can self-assess as the work progresses. I must admit that having to do field experiences got tedious after having done so many of them. If I were to change one thing about them, I think I would change up the questions a little, because over time, the questions became less meaningful to me, and there seemed to be a lot of repetition, especially on question three regarding impact. If a field experience is positive, it will always have a positive impact either directly or indirectly on school improvement, faculty development and student learning. Perhaps wording that question differently would help.
I am not sure how impact can be measured by the fact that I completed my field experiences. I do know that as a result of my field experiences, Griffin has significantly increased its technology usage over the past two years. We have implemented iPad classrooms, Blackboard technology, and teacher blogs since I have started this program. I think that says a great deal. I also know that there have been many teachers in my school who have benefited from my field experiences, because my field experiences have been aimed at assisting them. Students have definitely benefited from my technology involvement, because I have gotten into classrooms in various capacities as an academic coach to teachers, and as a fellow teacher to students. Overall, Griffin is a better school for the field experiences I and my KSU colleagues have brought into our school. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a change agent for something positive and electric at our school!
